We had so much fun in a little village called Candivejo. Our transportation was a horse drawn carriage. We first went to our guide's brother's house. He makes woven bags and baskets from recycled plastic strips. Mom was nice and let us each get a bag. Then we went to a local family's house and we got to play Gamelan music with kids from the village. Gamelan music is a traditional Java music. I chose the gongs to play. Everyone else played the xylophone. There were lots of gongs though we only used 3 of them. Playing music was so fun! Everyone congratulated me after I hit the final note.
Here we are practically celebrities! All the school kids we see at sights always want to take a photo with us! Our guide says that they have never seen people with light skin and blond hair. Plus daddy is super-mega tall. They are mostly high school kids. They were all nice and spoke a little bit of English. One group of girls wanted a photo with just me! It is fun and a little bit over whelming because once were done with one photo we had to take another. I took about 10 photos in under 1 hour.
On Monday, we biked to a pottery class in Nglipho Village. It was fun biking through the village, even though it was hot. I like seeing all the little kids and passing the schools because they all wave at us!
I'll teach you how to make what I made, if you read along!
Things you will need:
pottery turn table
clay
slicer
small cloth
bucket of water
Step 1
Get your hands wet in a bucket of water so you can knead clay and put it on pottery turn table.
Step 2
Spin pottery turn table and slide your hand along the side of the clay and put your thumb in the middle and press down to make a hole.
Step 3
Place your hand like you're gently pinching the sides and bring it up diagonally. Keep raising the sides and shape the clay into the shape you want it to be.
Once the clay is the shape you want, use a slicer like a string to cut your creation off the table.
Step 4
From now you can specialize it to make it say you! I ended up making a stupa like we saw at the Borobudur temple and a flower vase.
Lombok
Yesterday we arrived in Lombok, another island in Indonesia. It was pretty late when we arrived so we ate dinner and went to sleep. At breakfast daddy put the skin of this fruit called a rambutan in his eyes so he looked super creepy. He held the right one like a fake eyenbecause the fruit was still in there.
We canceled our adventure cause we were very tired. We swam in the pools and ocean and looked for shells on the beach. Now there is a thunder storm on its way so we can't swim anymore. There has been about 5 in the past week. It is the rainy season in Indonesia!
Happy early Valentines Day!!!
